Ottawa, The National Council on Canada-Arab Relations (NCCAR) welcomes Prime Minister Mark Carney’s formal recognition of the State of Palestine. This historic decision affirms Canada’s commitment to justice, international law, and the human dignity of the Palestinian people.

While recognition is a milestone, it must be matched by urgent action to end the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza. Canada should ensure unimpeded access for food, water, medicine, and humanitarian aid, and stop the weaponization of basic necessities that has fueled famine and mass displacement. Canada must also halt all arms transfers and military cooperation with Israel, and prohibit trade and investment linked to illegal settlements.

Equally critical is a commitment to Gaza’s reconstruction, so families can return to their homes, schools, and hospitals. Canada must also push back against media bias and disinformation that distort the realities on the ground, and champion protection for vulnerable groups — including women, children, and displaced communities. At the heart of any durable peace lies the Palestinian right to self-determination, a principle that Canada’s recognition should strengthen both in word and deed.

NCCAR stands ready to work with the Government of Canada, civil society, and international partners to ensure this recognition leads to relief, dignity, and long-term security for Palestinians, while laying the foundation for genuine peace and justice in the region.

La reconnaissance par le Canada de l’État de Palestine : un appel à une action humanitaire urgente

Ottawa, Le Conseil national des relations Canada-Arabes (NCCAR) se félicite de la reconnaissance officielle de l’État de Palestine par le Premier ministre Mark Carney. Cette décision historique confirme l’engagement du Canada envers la justice, le droit international et la dignité du peuple palestinien.

Bien que cette reconnaissance constitue une étape importante, elle doit être accompagnée d’une action urgente pour mettre fin à la catastrophe humanitaire à Gaza. Le Canada doit garantir un accès sans entrave à la nourriture, à l’eau, aux médicaments et à l’aide humanitaire, et mettre fin à l’instrumentalisation des biens essentiels, qui a provoqué famine et déplacements massifs. Le Canada doit également suspendre tous les transferts d’armes et la coopération militaire avec Israël, et interdire le commerce et les investissements liés aux colonies illégales.

Il est tout aussi crucial de s’engager dans la reconstruction de Gaza, afin que les familles puissent retourner dans leurs maisons, leurs écoles et leurs hôpitaux. Le Canada doit également lutter contre les biais médiatiques et la désinformation qui déforment la réalité sur le terrain, tout en défendant la protection des groupes vulnérables — notamment les femmes, les enfants et les populations déplacées. Au cœur de toute paix durable se trouve le droit du peuple palestinien à l’autodétermination, un principe que la reconnaissance du Canada doit renforcer tant par la parole que par l’action.

Le NCCAR se dit prêt à collaborer avec le gouvernement du Canada, la société civile et les partenaires internationaux pour s’assurer que cette reconnaissance conduise à un soulagement, à la dignité et à la sécurité à long terme pour les Palestiniens, tout en jetant les bases d’une paix et d’une justice véritables dans la région.

اعتراف كندا بدولة فلسطين: دعوة للعمل الإنساني العاجل

يرحب المجلس الوطني للعلاقات الكندية العربية (NCCAR) باعتراف الحكومة الكندية برئاسة رئيس الوزراء مارك كارني الرسمي بدولة فلسطين. ويؤكد هذا القرار التاريخي التزام كندا بالعدالة والقانون الدولي والكرامة الإنسانية للشعب الفلسطيني.

مع أن هذا الاعتراف يُعدّ إنجازًا هامًا، إلا أنه يجب أن يُواكبه تحرك عاجل لإنهاء الكارثة الإنسانية في غزة. ينبغي على كندا ضمان وصول الغذاء والماء والدواء والمساعدات الإنسانية دون عوائق، ووقف استخدام الضروريات الأساسية كسلاح، مما أدى إلى تفاقم المجاعة والنزوح الجماعي. كما يجب على كندا وقف جميع عمليات نقل الأسلحة والتعاون العسكري مع إسرائيل، وحظر التجارة والاستثمار المرتبطين بالمستوطنات غير الشرعية.

من الأهمية بمكان الالتزام بإعادة إعمار غزة، حتى تتمكن العائلات من العودة إلى منازلها ومدارسها ومستشفياتها. يجب على كندا أيضًا التصدي للتحيز الإعلامي والتضليل الإعلامي اللذين يُشوهان الحقائق على الأرض، والدفاع عن حماية الفئات المستضعفة - بما في ذلك النساء والأطفال والنازحون. يكمن في صميم أي سلام دائم حق الفلسطينيين في تقرير المصير، وهو مبدأ ينبغي أن يعززه اعتراف كندا قولًا وفعلًا.

وتقف المجلس الوطني للعلاقات الكندية العربية للتنسيق والتعاون في مجال حقوق الإنسان على أهبة الاستعداد للعمل مع حكومة كندا والمجتمع المدني والشركاء الدوليين لضمان أن يؤدي هذا الاعتراف إلى الإغاثة والكرامة والأمن على المدى الطويل للفلسطينيين، مع وضع الأساس للسلام الحقيقي والعدالة في المنطقة.
