Dr. Layla Younes graduated from the Medical Academy of Sofia, Bulgaria. She went on to complete her residency in family medicine at the American University of Beirut. During her training, she was awarded the Lebanese Red Cross Honor for Voluntary Activity in the Medical Field. In Lebanon, she worked not only as a family physician in outpatient practices, but also as an emergency room physician. She completed a second residency in family medicine at McGill University. She has been a lecturer in the McGill Department of Family Medicine. For the past 15 years, she has been working as a family physician in CLSC of Côte-des-Neiges. She has been a clinical supervisor, as well as an academic advisor and mentor. She has participated in and led a wide range of educational activities at McGill. She has also been a member of the McGill Primary Healthcare Research Network. As a family physician, Dr. Younes has held various leadership positions at her work and at the community level. She has a special interest in refugee and immigrant health. She is fluent in 4 languages.
