The National Council on Canada-Arab Relations (NCCAR) is deeply saddened and troubled to learn that an Israeli air attack has killed and injured a "large number" of displaced people who were seeking shelter at St. Porphyrius Church compound in Gaza. This tragic incident not only represents a severe violation of religious and cultural heritage but also underscores the urgent need for the international community to take immediate action to protect innocent civilians and places of refuge during the ongoing conflict.

Located in Gaza, the St. Porphyrius Church, the third oldest church in the world, had opened its doors to those seeking safety from the violence that has engulfed the region. The loss of life and injuries sustained by those taking shelter at this sacred site are a grave tragedy and a stark reminder of the human cost of the ongoing conflict.

NCCAR strongly condemns such actions that put the lives of innocent civilians, including children, at risk and result in the destruction of historic and sacred landmarks. We call on all parties involved to respect the sanctity of religious sites, protect displaced individuals, and refrain from acts of violence that endanger civilian lives.

This heartbreaking incident emphasizes the urgent need for a peaceful and just resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Le Conseil National des Relations Canada-Arabes NCCAR est profondément attristé et préoccupé d'apprendre qu'une attaque aérienne israélienne a tué et blessé un "grand nombre" de personnes déplacées qui cherchaient refuge au sein du complexe de l'église Saint-Porphyre à Gaza.

Cet incident tragique représente non seulement une grave atteinte au patrimoine religieux et culturel, mais souligne également la nécessité urgente de la communauté internationale d'agir immédiatement pour protéger les civils innocents et les lieux de refuge pendant le conflit en cours.

Située à Gaza, l'église Saint-Porphyre, la troisième plus ancienne église du monde, avait ouvert ses portes à ceux qui cherchaient la sécurité face à la violence qui a enveloppé la région.
