Ottawa, ON — The National Council on Canada-Arab Relations (NCCAR) expresses deep shock and utmost outrage over the recent surge of violence in Lebanon and Palestine, including the deadly Israeli airstrikes on the Tulkarm refugee camp in the West Bank, which killed at least 18 Palestinians, and the devastating bombings in central Beirut that have claimed more civilian lives.
These ongoing acts of aggression, targeting densely populated civilian areas, reflect a dangerous escalation that threatens to destabilize the region further and drive it towards an uncontrollable humanitarian catastrophe. The recent strike on the Tulkarm refugee camp, killing innocent Palestinians, has once again brought into sharp focus the severe human toll of this ongoing conflict.

Meanwhile, in Lebanon, Israeli forces have launched airstrikes reaching into central Beirut, killing nine civilians and damaging residential areas in the Bachoura district, dangerously close to the heart of the city. These bombings, coupled with Israel’s call for evacuations in southern Lebanon, signal the potential for further devastation in an already volatile region.
“The escalation of violence we are witnessing in both Palestine and Lebanon is not only a violation of international law but a blatant disregard for human life. The massacres in Tulkarm and the relentless bombardment of Beirut are tragic reminders of the urgent need for the global community to take decisive action. How many more lives must be lost before the world steps in to stop this unchecked aggression? Canada and the international community must demand an immediate ceasefire and work towards a sustainable peace that addresses the root causes of this conflict: occupation, systemic violence, a genocie and the ongoing denial of human rights,” Rania Hamdan, President of NCCAR, stated.
NCCAR echoes the Palestinian government’s call for urgent international action to stop the escalating violence and massacres targeting civilians. We further urge the Government of Canada to leverage its influence on the world stage to demand accountability and to take a firm stance in advocating for a peaceful resolution.
As Lebanon braces for more strikes and Palestinians continue to endure daily violence, NCCAR stands in solidarity with all victims of this conflict. We call on all parties involved to end the hostilities and engage in dialogue for a just and lasting peace.
