In solidarity with Palestine and in remembrance of Nakba Day, marking the 76th anniversary of the tragic expulsion and disenfranchisement of Palestinians, the National Council on Canada-Arab Relations stands firm in its commitment to justice and human rights.
Nakba, meaning 'catastrophe' in Arabic, signifies the forced displacement and dispossession of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their homes and land in 1948.

As we honour the memory of those who have suffered and continue to suffer, we cannot turn a blind eye to the ongoing genocide in Gaza, Palestine. The recent escalation of violence has brought unimaginable devastation, claiming innocent lives and shattering communities. The echoes of Nakba reverberate through the streets of Gaza as families mourn the loss of loved ones and endure the horrors of war.
In the face of such unspeakable tragedy, NCCAR reiterates its call for an end to the occupation and an immediate ceasefire. The cycle of violence and oppression must be broken, and all parties must prioritize the protection of civilian lives and adhere to international law.
"NCCAR welcomes the recent United Nations vote on Palestine and urges the Canadian government to provide unwavering support for the recognition of a Palestinian state. This is not merely a political issue but a matter of fundamental human rights and dignity. Canada has a moral obligation to stand on the right side of history and support the aspirations of the Palestinian people.” - Rania Hamdan, President of NCCAR
As advocates for justice, peace, and human rights, NCCAR remains committed to fostering dialogue, understanding, and cooperation between Canada and the Arab world. Together, we must strive for a future where all people can live in dignity, free from oppression and fear.”
