Ottawa, Canada – The National Council on Canada-Arab Relations (NCCAR) expresses its profound outrage and sorrow over the terrorist attack that occurred today in Lebanon, resulting in the tragic death of nine individuals, including an 8-year-old girl, Mira Al-Hassan, and injuring over 3,000, mostly civilians, according to Lebanon's Health Minister. We unequivocally condemn this senseless violence and extend our deepest condolences to the victims' families.

UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, has characterized the attack as "an extremely concerning escalation," emphasizing the urgent need for international action to bring those responsible to justice.
Although Israel has not commented on the explosions, the attack occurred shortly after Israel announced its intention to expand its military objectives from Gaza Strip to its northern border with Lebanon.
This attack, in conjunction with the ongoing conflict in Gaza and the broader issues surrounding the occupation of Palestine, highlights the urgent need for peace and justice in the region. We call on the international community to address these interconnected issues with immediacy, advocating for mutual respect, adherence to international law, and an end to all forms of violence.
Only through these measures can we hope to achieve lasting peace. NCCAR reaffirms its commitment to advocating for human rights and the protection of civilians in the region.
NCCAR is a not-for-profit charitable organization based in Ottawa, dedicated to fostering greater understanding and knowledge among Canadians about the cultural, historical, and socio-economic realities of the people of the Arab world.
