For decades, Ian Watson stood for diplomacy over division, dialogue over fear, and principled advocacy in Canadian public life. After serving seven consecutive terms in Parliament, he helped establish NCCAR in 1985 with a bold vision: to create a lasting institution that would strengthen understanding between Canadians and the peoples of the Arab world through education, public policy, advocacy, and civic engagement.
Today, that mission matters more than ever.
This tribute dinner is not only a moment to remember a remarkable man — it is a call to continue the work he began. As conflicts deepen, communities become polarized, and voices for justice are too often silenced, NCCAR remains committed to building bridges, defending human dignity, amplifying Arab Canadian voices, and shaping a more informed and compassionate Canada.
