(Ottawa, August 5, 2020): The National Council on Canada Arab Relations (NCCAR) is deeply saddened by the catastrophic explosion which devasted Beirut yesterday and extends its heartfelt condolences to the people of Lebanon. Already reeling from the impacts of the conflict in Syria, a crumbling economy, rampant corruption and the ravages of the COVID-19 pandemic, the people of Lebanon now find themselves in the midst of a sudden humanitarian crisis with thousands of dead and injured overwhelming hospitals, the destruction of hundreds of homes leaving up to 300,000 people without safe shelter and the destruction of key food storage facilities in a country where many do not have enough to eat.
In the aftermath of this new catastrophe to hit Lebanon, NCCAR calls on the Canadian Government and the international community to provide urgent humanitarian assistance to the people of Lebanon. We also urge all Canadians to rise in solidarity with the people of Lebanon and to support appeals by well-known and reliable humanitarian and development organisations.
Today we all stand in solidarity with the people of Lebanon.

Le CNRCA appelle le gouvernement canadien et la communauté internationale à fournir une aide humanitaire urgente au peuple libanais
ttawa, 5 août 2020): Le Conseil national des relations canado-arabes (CNRCA) est profondément attristé par l'explosion catastrophique qui a dévasté Beyrouth hier et présente ses plus sincères condoléances au peuple libanais. Déjà sous le choc des impacts du conflit en Syrie, d'une économie en ruine, de la corruption endémique et des ravages de la pandémie COVID-19, le peuple libanais se trouve maintenant au milieu d'une crise humanitaire soudaine avec des d'hôpitaux débordés par des milliers de morts et de blessés , la destruction de centaines de maisons laissant jusqu'à 300 000 personnes sans abri et la destruction des principales installations de stockage des aliments dans un pays où beaucoup n'ont pas assez à manger.
Au lendemain de cette nouvelle catastrophe qui a frappé le Liban, le CNRCA appelle le gouvernement canadien et la communauté internationale à fournir une aide humanitaire urgente au peuple libanais. Nous exhortons également tous les Canadiens à se montrer solidaires du peuple libanais et à soutenir les appels lancés par des organisations humanitaires et de développement bien connues et fiables.
Aujourd'hui, nous sommes tous solidaires du peuple libanais.
