November 11- Spotlight on William Korbatly

Lawyer since 2002, Me Korbatly began his career in Lebanon in the Tripoli Lawyers Association before being called to the Barreau du Québec and then to the Law Society of Ontario in Canada.
 
Me Korbatly now runs as board chairman and majority shareholder of Droit Légal Inc., a multidisciplinary 100% online law firm composed of tens of employees nationally and internationally.

He attended several courses in international commercial arbitration, mediation and good governance practices within boards. He also obtained a certificate in Project Management from McGill university in Montreal. 
 
He is now a certified arbitrator in civil and commercial matters and also a certified mediator in civil, commercial and family matters. He is also an accredited arbitrator for Small Claims Court of Quebec. 
 
He is a certified investigator in psychological and sexual harrassment in labour matters.
 
He is certified in Businesses transfers transactions by the Leadership institute of Quebec.

Through his network, Me Korbatly provides services in strategic policy in front of all governmental levels federal, provincial and municipal.

Among his international activities, Me Korbatly represented Lebanon in 2008 and 2009 in Sweden and Jordan in a training seminar about Transboundary Water Management - TWM in which he was trained in negotiations between countries on the various disputes arising from sharing these waters.

Me Korbatly is very involved in his community and society socially, professionally and politically.
 
He currently sits on several boards and committees among which we can find:
 
-Intercultural relations committee for the City of Laval. (Member)
-Lebanese Canadian Chamber of commerce. (Secretary general)
-Rotary club of Montreal (President)
 
Among the causes in which he is involved:
 
-Youth mentorship. 
-Promotion of rights and freedoms.
-Better access to Justice. 
-Combatting Islamophobia and all kinds of discrimination.
-Free legal clinics and pro-bono representations in front of courts for those in need.
-Combatting poverty
And many others. 

In October 2022, his law firm won the start-up of the year, awarded by the Lebanese Canadian Chamber of Commerce.
 
In May 2024, he received a recognition award from CARI-Saint Laurent for conducting, for the 2nd year in a row a pro-bono legal clinic to help and answer all the questions of newcomers. 

In October 2024, Me Korbatly received the Coronation Medal of King Charles III award for his contribution to society and country.
 
He currently conducts on Fridays at 11h 15 am, on a bi-weekly basis, a legal chronicle on Radio Moyen Orient 1450 am to give the Lebanese community legal advices in all kinds of legal matters and answers their questions too if any.  

On the other hand, Bill has been in the Japanese martial arts world since 1987. He has a 4th Dan Black Belt in Aikido and 1st Dan Black Belt in Karate. He founded in 2010 the first Iwama style (Takemusu Aikido) Aikido school in Quebec called "Way of the Samurai Aikido Academy".
 
Finally one of his last contributions to the Lebanese community is creating and the co-founding of the first Lebanese Hiking Club in Quebec called "Club Hiking libanais de Montréal", founded in 2022 and that has now more than 1700 members. This club is the first of its kind to reunite Lebanese, old and newcomers,  to enjoy nature and mingle among each other, keeping the Lebanese spirit and humour alive. 
 
For Me Korbatly, social involvement is a must and a duty as a contribution to his country, society and community.
