November 22- Spotlight on Caroline Charles Eid

Caroline Charles Eid, born in Chouf Mount Lebanon, grew up in Hadath Beirut, where she completed her secondary education at the Antonine College in Baabda. She pursued her higher education at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik, earning a Master’s degree in Translation and Languages.

Since graduating, Mrs. Eid has built a successful career in translation and Arabization. Over the years, she has collaborated with numerous international organizations, including the World Bank Group, the International Monetary Fund, various United Nations agencies, and others.

In 2007, she immigrated to Canada and began working in the translation department at the Middle East Bookstore in Montreal. In 2011, she became a member of the Ordre des traducteurs, terminologues et interprètes du Québec.

Through her work, Mrs. Eid has contributed significantly to providing translation services and supporting newcomers from the Arab community. Her expertise in translating immigration applications, legal documents, and authenticating official records has grown over time.

Mrs. Eid’s professional association with the Middle East Bookstore spanned many years, during which she developed a strong relationship with its owners. This connection ultimately led to the decision to entrust her with the leadership of this venerable institution, founded in 1990.

In early 2023, Mrs. Eid purchased the Bookstore. Determined to prevent the closure of this cultural landmark, she chose to preserve its legacy and ensure its continued operation. The Middle East Bookstore has played a pivotal role in preserving Arab culture for over 34 years. As the oldest and largest Arab Bookstore in North America, it has earned the nickname "The Embassy of the Arab Book in the Diaspora."

The Bookstore actively fosters cultural communication between Arab communities and Canadian society. It also works to develop cultural awareness and provide Arabic books to the Arab community. As a comprehensive Bookstore, it specializes in Arabic literature across a wide range of fields, including literature, novels, poetry, philosophy, jurisprudence, history, politics, Islamic sciences, religious books, human development, children’s books, dictionaries, glossaries, and more.

In addition to serving the local community, the Bookstore strives to strengthen connections between Arab countries and the diaspora. It prioritizes economic support for publishing houses across the Arab world, from Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan to the Arabian Gulf, Egypt, and the Maghreb region.
